Join JVAS Secretary Conner Schmitt on our monthly “First Tuesday Hike” at Ray Amato Trail. This is an easy grade walk, flat path with no steep inclines through a variety of mixed habitats including streamside (Little Juniata River), wetland (Robert P. Brooks Wetland), goldenrod meadow, and forested habitats. The result is the possibility of encountering a diverse array of bird and wildlife species. Various habitat improvement projects are ongoing at this location, including but not limited to removal of invasive, plantings of natives, wildlife nest box projects, seasonal bird feeders, and small brush piles for wildlife.

WHAT TO BRING: Please judge weather accordingly and wear appropriate clothing. Bring your own snacks or drink as you deem appropriate. We suggest bird field guides, binoculars, cameras, and since mosquitos can be a real issue depending on the season, consider carrying repellent. Please call field trip leader Conner Schmitt or Field Trip Chair Michael Kensinger @ (814) 505-3410 with any questions or in case of inclement weather.

Address: We meet in the parking lot near the entrance of Northern Blair Recreational Center in Tipton: 4080 E Pleasant Valley Blvd, Altoona, PA 16601

*Field Trip Chair reserves the right to cancel any field trip last minute in the interest of safety of our participants. We encourage you to call or text us if you are ever in doubt that a field trip is taking place.
